On Sunday, it’s Mother’s Day.
A time to think a little about passing down. To think about those who, often without realising it, shape our tastes, our habits, and our little obsessions.
Why don’t I wear flip-flops with socks on? Why do I rather eat bananas than wear a fanny bag? Why is black forbidden at home, to the great displeasure of my teenage son?
In this family history, my father is probably a main character. He was “a mother like any other” when I was a kid. He also passed down to me his humour, his outspokenness, and 7 years ago, his baby, with all the codes that go along with it. At Victoire, we say “Hello Madam” and that’s it, never followed by a surname! We don’t say “See you” or “Good luck”, we rather say “We hope to see you soon”… simple, sincere, elegant.
There are also the women of my life. The ones who taught me to love beautiful things. The old embroidered household linen, silverware for every meal every day, washed linen sheets, large tables with friends, the family brownie…
This is all the legacy you can find in our capsule collection “The trousseau”.
Embroideries inspired by my grandmother’s napkins or my mom’s marled nightshirts. A flexible and light washed linen, tainted and whitened by the sun. Flounces like a reinvented jabot. A t-shirt and bathrobe made of honeycomb fabric like pieces of clothing from a castle… Sofia Coppola rather than Jane Austen style.
Happy Mother’s Day to all moms and particularly mine who reads me every weekend, intently, without missing the opportunity to point me out small spelling errors, spread here and their. For you mom…
Have a nice weekend,
Camille
PS: Jannik Sinner will surely have time to come by Victoire homme this weekend. We will show him how to put up with high temperatures on the court changing his polyester polo shirt to a beautiful white linen polo shirt: light, fresh, breathable, and chic. Quite simple.
